What a great loss to Glen Ellyn! He donated so much of himself to the community! I am grateful to have had the pleasure of working with him through the GE Chamber. He touched the soul of so many...

I knew Chief Stone from the time I was a rookie firefighter in Elmhurst and got to know him even better when I was a firefighter/Officer in Carol Stream. We knew him as a very strong, kind, and forthright man who was always willing to share his knowledge and counsel with those of us who were making a career of the fire service. I will always remember him fondly. Our entire family grieves with you and wished you God's blessing forever.

We remember Stuart as a welcoming, jovial man with a lively spirit and always a good joke to tell! Each time we went to our family farm we looked forward to visiting with our neighbors, Stuart and Shelley. He will be missed and not forgotten.

What an admirable man in all the lives he touched, and most importantly the love, compassion, and bond that I witnessed between he and Carrie. Stu truly understood the meaning of leaving a legacy and I am blessed that I had the opportunity to know him. His Integrity, wisdom, strength, and love will forever remain in our hearts.

Stuart Steven Stone was a Mason, in the true sense of the word. He practiced brotherly love by his constant concern for others. His extensive volunteer work for the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company, Salvation Army, Chambers of Commerce, Rotary Club and his community in general exemplified his love and charity for all. As publisher of the Glen Ellyn News, Wheaton Leader and other newspapers he honored the truth. His word was gold. It was my privilege to call Stu a Brother Mason. Now that his work on earth has ended, his soul shall dwell forever in realms of light and life eternal and his exemplary conduct shall be a shining light to others.
To Carrie, Shelley and his extended family celebrate his life, it was well lived, as you cope with your grief and sorrow at his passing. I will truly miss him.

Stu's passing leaves an empty hole in the village. He was the model for volunteer service and a cornerstone in the type of community we live in. He was often gruff on the surface, but had a generous heart. His involvement in so many events and organizations will be missed, but his legacy will continue.

I am saddened to learn about the passing of Stuart. He was a colleague and friend with whom I enjoyed great conversations and more than a few laughs. We collaborated as Fire Chiefs – Stu in Glen Ellyn and me in Wheaton – and I know that he cared deeply for both his community and his firefighters. To the family, I am sorry for your loss.
