Joel, Anna and their staff always showed compassion and dignity. My husband lived in memory care, and passed away from Alzheimer's on a Thursday night. I chose Leonard Funeral Home in Glen Ellyn, to make the funeral arrangements. Someone arrived within the hour to respectfully bring my husband to the funeral home. On Friday, Anna called and said Joel was available that afternoon for our meeting. Since I had my morning free, Anna emailed the prayer card choices, since there were many verses and layouts to choose from. And I chose a younger picture of my husband for his memory card. Anna contacted St. Petronille and we set Wednesday for the funeral. During my meeting with Joel, we discussed other details for the wake and funeral: casket, flowers, cantor, musician, servers, pall bearers, live stream, food and drinks area, digital pictures, and writing the obituary. Over the weekend, the collection of pictures and obituary were finished. Joel posted the obituary, and assembled the pictures into a beautiful tribute to the life of my husband. Monday I talked with Deacon John from St. Pet's, who was in New Jersey. We conducted all the decisions by phone and text. Amazingly, everything pulled together for Tuesday's wake. But the nicest surprise of all - Joel was able to make my husband look like he never had Alzheimer's - that's how I wanted him to be remembered! I was moved to tears, happy tears. The wake was wonderful - so many people came to pay their respects, and the funeral was very respectful and meaningful. The readings were at the pulpit, the chosen songs were sung by the cantor, there was music played throughout the Mass. It was beautiful. We processed to Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel. The celebration of life was everything I could hope for, and it was all pulled together within a few days with respect and dignity. Thank you Joel, Anna, Fr. Les and Deacon John.
