Dear Family of Crazy,

Your Beloved Father has been on my mind lately and I just tried to call him at Brookdale for his birthday. My plan was to take him out for lunch or bring in lunch again on Wednesday. I’m saddened by his passing and I see that it has been some time since you lost him. I coordinated the Travel and Tourism Program at College of DuPage. Your Father was a dedicated student of mine for numerous years and had become a good friend. He was always fun to have in the classroom and consistently demonstrated a brilliant mind. Please accept my deepest sympathy on his passing. May it comfort you in some small way to know that his legacy lives on in the hearts of many of those he touched in life. Warmest regards,
Joanne Giampa

Chuck was kind and generous to my elderly sister, Carol Johnson, who worked for him years ago at UL. I did not know him personally but he clearly had a positive impact on her life and left many happy memories. She was lucky to have known him. I am sorry for the loss his family experienced, but happy that you had someone like him in your lives to hold close for so many years.

I am so saddened to hear of Charlie's passing. I own Maid to Perfection cleaning service in Glen Ellyn and my company cleaned the house for him for almost 5 years. I'll never forget first meeting him when I and a couple of our crew members cleaned the home for the first time. He INSISTED that we stop and have lunch - proceeding to buy us all pizza. He was kind, generous, funny, and never let an opportunity pass to give me a bit of ribbing. To this very day (and it's been been years) I have ONE business card on my bulletin board - his! It says "GO AWAY, PLEASE!" (Tours, Cruises, Vacations). As I close the business and call all my CURRENT customers - I made a note to call him as well - he is/was unforgettable. I'm so sorry I missed talking to him one more time - both I and ALL the ladies that ever cleaned his home LOVED HIM! He will be missed.

My condolences to the "boys," their families and his many, many good friends.
Chuck was an amazing man with a fantastic "bah humbug," yet full-of-life, demeanor. He was full of faith, witty and wise, sarcastic and loving, Mr. Speedy on the road, a total dog spoiler and he could see right through anyone! Initially,
He was my mentor at UL, and we remained good friends for another 30+ years. Truly, he was much more than my friend, he was like a father to me: always caring, encouraging, and chastising, lol:) I loved him dearly and was fortunate to visit annually+ after I moved to Texas in 2012.
I called today to discover his phones had been disconnected and found him here. He remains in my heat, mind and soul. See ya in heaven Chuck!
As he said, "Enjoy," Kimberly Struve Landolt

Kimberly, you hit the nail right on the head about all of your comments on Chuck. He was our backyard neighbor for the last 23 years and we just loved Edna & Chuck and his sons. When he moved into the Brookdale over a year ago, we inherited his dog "Gator" and so we think of him daily and his dog is loved by all who just see him for the first time, just like Chuck!

I'm sad to see Chuck pass away, and I wish I could have been at the service to say goodbye. I had the privilege of grabbing breakfast monthly with him at Butterfield's while I was a pastor in Wheaton, and I continued to visit him every time I was back in town. He'd introduce me as "my pastor." I remember in September talking to him about death and what might await him. He had a lot of regrets, but he also trusted Jesus, because "what else can I do?" I'll be praying that the comfort of God the Father and the hope of the resurrection of Jesus would be with you all.

From the College Church Deaconesses, I send my most sincere sympathy at the recent passing of your loved one. Please know of our prayers for your family. I remember so fondly talking to Charlie as my husband and I came early to the 8 am service at College Church. There, faithfully seated in the back gallery, was Charlie. He always had a smile and a report of how he was feeling that made me smile. From what I could see, he seemed to love the Lord and that early service. I ask the Lord to be a comfort to each of you as you grieve and miss him.
