Anthony Tyznik

November 16, 1925 ~ November 19, 2016 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Anthony “Tony” Tyznik age 91 a resident of Batavia, IL. passed into God’s kingdom on Saturday, November 19, 2016. He was born on November 16, 1925 in Thorp, WI. To Anna and John Tyznik.  Tony is survived by his loving children; David (Julie) Tyznik, Kathleen (Thomas) Meyers, Janet (Joey) Navarro and Kenneth (Lois) Tyznik; his cherished 12 grandchildren; Matthew, Timothy and Sarah Navarro, John, Benjamin (Rebecca), Gregory, Thomas and Emma Tyznik, Keith & Kyle (Alison) Meyers, and Barbara and Stephen Tyznik; his step-children Judy (Robert) Steed and James McGreevy; his step-grandchildren Bridget Steed and Kathryn Steed (Dan Hellebuyek) and by many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara (nee Emmert) in 1991. They had married on June 27, 1953 in LaCrosse, WI., by his second wife Marilyn (nee McGreevy) in 2015. They married on January 16, 1999 in Glen Ellyn, IL.; his brothers Dr. William Tyznik and Joseph Tyznik and his parents Anna & John .

Tony grew up in Thorp on his family farm, attended University of Wisconsin – Madison where he graduated with a degree in landscape architecture.  He served in the U.S. Army. After graduation, he worked for the Milwaukee Park District and in 1953 moved to Illinois to become the landscape architect at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. He worked and lived there from 1953 through 1993 sharing his passion for trees and plants with all who visited. Tony also did private landscape design work including notable gardens for Ann Carton in Lake Forest, Faith Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn, the Brenton Arboretum in Iowa and Central DuPage Hospital.

After retirement from the Morton Arboretum , Tony started a landscape design division at his son’s nursery, Planter’s Palette in Winfield, IL. He continued working there doing what he loved until 2014.

Tony was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church, a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, served as the first President of the Lisle Park Board and was on the board for Lisle Community School District. He was active in the Illinois Cooperative Extension service and with Friends of Danada. Mostly , Tony was a man of God, a devoted family man, enjoyed traveling, drawing (known for his pen and ink tree drawings), gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Services will be as follows. Visitation, Friday, November 25, 2015 from 3-8 PM at the Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, 565 Duane St. Glen Ellyn (630-469-0032). A service will be held on Saturday, November 26th at 1 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, 41 N. Park Blvd. Glen Ellyn. Burial at Forest Hill cemetery in Glen Ellyn.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to either St. John’s Orthodox Church c/o Steve Telisak, 5301 176th St., Chippewa Falls, WI 54729 or Faith Lutheran Church.
