Terrence R. Pekny

Terrence “Terry” Roger Pekny, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on July 15th, 2022, at the age of 73.

Born to George and Mildred Pekny in 1949 and raised in the Chicagoland area, he attended St. Cletus and St. John of the Cross grade schools, St. Joseph High School (‘67), and Northern Illinois University. His amazing sister, Barbara Laken preceded him in death. Terry is survived by his wife of 52 years and lifelong sweetheart E. Jessica (née Hoffman) Pekny, sons Marc (Jennifer) and Douglas (Lindsay), and grandchildren Grace, Jackson, Angela, Noelle, Joseph, Maria, Raymond, Gus, Vincent, Juliana, and Zélie. 

He split his time living in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and South Haven, Michigan. Terry transformed Architectural Floor Service, founded as a residential flooring company by his father, into a nationally recognized business for flooring specializing in pharmaceutical clean rooms. After retirement, he devoted himself more fully to his passion for guitar collecting and opened Class of ‘67 Vintage Guitars in Glen Ellyn. 

No obituary could possibly sum up all the feelings and fond memories his loved ones have for him. He had a generous heart and was easy with a laugh. His loves included playing guitar, walking with his various dogs, solving crossword puzzles poolside, crispy bacon and pepperoni, Wilco, and hoping to train to be a Navy Seal on the beach in Michigan with the true love of his life, Jessica!

Visitation for Terry will be on Wednesday, July 20th from 4-8 PM (Aloha shirts or colorful attire is encouraged)  at Leonard Funeral Home, 565 Duane St. Glen Ellyn. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10 AM with a visitation starting at 9 AM at St. Michael Church in Wheaton, 310 S. Wheaton Ave.  Terry will be laid to rest on Friday in Lake View Cemetery in South Haven, Michigan.
