Suzanne Prichard Obituary

Suzanne W. Prichard

Suzanne Wideman Prichard, 91, of Glen Ellyn, IL, a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, completed her earthly journey and passed away peacefully and comfortably on February 6, 2021 following complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

Suzanne was born on July 23, 1929 in Alton, IL, the first child of Luther and Margaret (Canfield) Wideman.  A 1947 graduate of Alton High School, she received her bachelor’s degree in liberal arts in 1951 from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she met the love of her life, Harold.  She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Suzanne was a consummate homemaker committed beyond anything else to raising a strong and cohesive family and faithfully supporting her husband in a beautiful, nearly seven-decade partnership of love. Among her many hobbies, she particularly enjoyed gardening, bridge, reading, jigsaw puzzles and knitting. She also relished her many visits to behold the wonderful gardens, trees and plants of the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. Family vacations, family reunions and holidays were always special and memorable experiences for her.

Suzanne served for 12 years as a teacher’s aide in the busy computer lab of Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn where she quickly and easily became a familiar and happy face and friend to dozens of students, faculty and administrators. She also was a dedicated volunteer at the Glen Ellyn Public Library for many years.

Throughout her long and consequential life, Suzanne was widely known and admired for her grace, dependability, charm and selflessness and an unwavering concern for her family and large community of friends. Her gentle wisdom and ceaseless caring, her encouragement and understanding, her infectious smile and laugh, and the quiet strength of her presence will be remembered by all who were fortunate to have Suzanne touch their lives.

Left to cherish Suzanne’s precious memory are her husband of 69 years, Harold C. “Snub” Prichard of Glen Ellyn, IL, a Korean War veteran; three sons, David Prichard of Palatine, IL; Mark (Judy) Prichard of Springfield, MO; and Brian Prichard of Glen Ellyn, as well as a grandson, Scott (Megan) Prichard of Wheaton, IL.

Suzanne also is survived by a sister, Carol W. Mueller of Milton, GA, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the devoted and outstanding staff at Lexington Hospice Services in Lombard, IL for their constant care of and compassion for Suzanne.

A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held at a later date at the Leonard Memorial Funeral Home in Glen Ellyn. Services are private.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial gifts be made in Suzanne’s name to Lexington Hospice Services, 665 West North Avenue, Suite 105, Lombard, IL 60148.

Afterglow

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
