Robert Hughes Obituary

Robert Christian Hughes (30) of Brooklyn, NY, passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2022.  He was born on March 20, 1992, son of Rebecca Olp Hughes and Michael John Hughes.  Bobby is survived by his mother Becky (Dean), father Michael (Erin), brother Kevin (Vanessa), sister Kristen, stepsiblings Dominick (Lauren), Devin (Chris), Emily (Kurt), Grandmother Julie, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as countless friends and extended family members.  Bobby had a sparkling, loving personality and an incredible sense of humor.

Bobby was well-known for his love of movies, music, and books, always quick with a quote or a recommendation. He was an avid Chicago sports fan and his favorite team was his beloved Cubs.

Bobby grew up in Naperville and attended Benet Academy High School in Lisle, IL.  While there, he excelled at academics and played football and lacrosse.  After high school, Bobby attended the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana where he received a degree in finance.

Bobby took his first job with the Abercrombie & Fitch Company as a financial analyst in Columbus, OH.  After spending two years with A & F, he followed his dream and moved to New York City, finding his home in Brooklyn. Bobby loved New York, especially Central Park where he spent many afternoons relaxing in his hammock, taking in the sunshine, and reading a book.

While Bobby was successful as a Senior Financial Analyst at the Kaplan Group in Manhattan, he also spent much of his time pursuing two of his main passions: improvisational theater and meditation.  Bobby loved improv!  A member of the Improv team “The Shrimp Store”, he had the opportunity to perform on stage at numerous venues throughout the city, including the Upright Citizens Brigade.

Bobby was also passionate about meditation and was an active member of the Shambhala Meditation Center of New York.  As a member of Shambhala, he volunteered his time helping to organize and run numerous classes for new members, as well as joining the staff to help produce their podcast.  Bobby was also certified as a meditation instructor.

Between his job, the meditation center, and improv, Bobby created a loving community of friends who helped make New York City his second home.

Bobby Hughes was a warm, loving, caring, thoughtful, and peaceful person that made the life of everyone that knew him better.  Bobby loved everyone he met and everyone that met Bobby loved him.  Bobby will be missed by many and forgotten by none.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make donations to The Trevor Project or a charity of your choice in Bobby's name.
