Nancy Wevers Obituary

Nancy Josephine Wevers age 78, beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at DuPage Care Center in Wheaton, IL.

She was born June 3, 1942, in Elmhurst, IL, the daughter of Henry and Lucille (Tomlinson) Hornbeck.

She is survived by her loving son, Mark Olsen, grandchildren, Cody (Christina) and Jamie Olsen.  Nancy was blessed to learn that her great granddaughter, Abigail Olsen, was born December 26, 2020.  Nancy is the sister of George (Rosemary) Hornbeck.  She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Husband, Renee Wevers, daughter Robin Olsen and brother Henry Jr. (Dorothy) Hornbeck preceded her in death.

Nancy spent much of her life in the Chicago suburbs, and later in life moved to the Seattle area to experience the lushness of the forest and gardens and enjoying the milder weather.  Growing up Nancy and her brothers visited many of the national parks across the United States as her parents spent the bulk of each summer traveling in order to provide an opportunity for their children to experience the richness of our great nation.  Nancy had many fond memories of these family vacations.  An advantage of her relocation to Seattle was the ability to travel along the coast to visit lighthouses.  She had a special place in her heart for lighthouses and had many pictures and memorabilia from her visits to these coastal destinations.

Nancy battled Parkinson’s Disease for 29 years before succumbing to it’s effects. Her always present positive disposition and faith were ever present to the end of her life.  She noted that God chose her for this disease at a younger age as He knew she could bear it and she would be a vessel for medical advancement.  She was among the first to undergo deep brain stimulation surgery in the United States as well as a number of experimental drug treatments.  Medical professionals, and later in life, nursing home staff, were always amazed at how she chose to deal with this dreadful disease.  She was a fighter to her very last breath.

A mass will be held at St. Petronille’s in Glen Ellyn, IL will be held on March 13th at 10 am.

Donations via a Tribute Gift to the Parkinson’s Foundation (parkinson.org) is requested by the family.
