Nancy Schelkopf Obituary

Surrounded by her children, Nancy Carol Schelkopf, 87, of Lake Barrington, formerly of Glen Ellyn, was called by God to enter into her everlasting life in heaven on March 21.

Nancy was a faithful servant of the Lord and she lived her life desiring to follow God’s will and for the Holy Spirit to guide her each day. She also had a love for books.

She turned her love of books and attention to detail into a successful career as a librarian. Nancy started out as an assistant librarian for the public relations department at Mobil Oil Company in New York City.

She also volunteered her time as a librarian at First Presbyterian Church in Glen Ellyn before going on to become the head of technical services and coordinator of automation at the newly opened Billy Graham Center Library on the Wheaton College campus.

Nancy also was a lifelong learner. In addition to having a Bachelor of Arts degree, she also had a Master’s degree in Library Science and a Master of Science degree in Management and Development of Human Resources.

After raising three children, Nancy returned to her childhood home of San Diego in 1986 and became a cataloging supervisor for San Diego City Schools. She retired as librarian at Berkeley County Public Library in South Carolina.

Given her fascination with technology, it was not a surprise that Nancy was a fan of the original “Star Trek” series and was proud to call herself a Trekkie.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Hertha Kite; her sister, Mary Hadwin; her husband, Ronald Schelkopf; her daughter, Diane L. Warning (nee Schelkopf) and her granddaughter, Valerie Murphy as well as brothers-in-law Craig, Michael and Robert Schelkopf.

She is survived by her daughter and son, Carol (Dennis) Schelkopf Post and Eric (Sonya) Schelkopf; her granddaughter, Brianna Post; a great-grandson, Nolen Lynn-Murphy; great-granddaughter, Azra Russell; brother-in-law Ed Dunnuck; and sisters-in-law Donna (Ed) Dunnuck, Rebecca Schelkopf, Jamie Schelkopf and Diana Baxter Schelkopf along with many nieces and nephews.

Burial will be private.
