Michael J. Malec, age 78, of Mason, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at his residence. He was born Tuesday, March 5, 1940 in Geneva, Illinois to Frank and Genevieve (nee Dembrock) Malec.
As a young man, Michael was known as Mickey to most of his family and friends. A natural athlete, he excelled in track as a cross-country runner and in baseball as a pitcher. His love of physical activity continued into adulthood as he enjoyed land sailing, kite flying and going on adventures such as flying a bush plane into remote regions of Alaska.
Serving in the US Marine Corps, his love of his country never faltered as he was active in both the American Legion Post and VFW in Mason. Playing Trivia Games was always an activity Michael looked forward to. His sense of humor usually came out playing the Trivia Games as he selected the name to use. A huge smile would always cross his face at the thought of the winner being "Not You"! Born in Illinois, Michael was a true fan of the Cubs and Bears.
Known for his Handlebar Mustache, Michael won several competitions in the mid-70's. His iconic mustache was no passing fancy.
