John Joseph Boland

John Joseph Boland, 76, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, passed away on March 18, 2020, at his home, after several years of battling with illnesses.

Mr. Boland was the son of late Mary S. Boland and late Thomas M. Boland Sr.

After graduating from Loyola University with a double major in Computer science and political science, John worked as aDirector of Computing Center at Water Tower Campus, Loyola University for over 10 years.  After left Loyola, John attended Northwestern University The Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science and received a Degree of Master of Information Technology.  John then went on worked as Program Director and instructor of Computer Networking At Westwood College until his retirement at age 70. 

John was an incredibly intelligent, passionate man with a dedication to helping people and making the world a better place.  He put others before himself and cared deeply about his profession.  He was a consummate professional who’s a sense of humor rivaled his intellect.  He lived his faith on a daily basis with wit and compassion and was a critical part of our team that never could be replaced. 

John’s dedication to his students was limitless.  He loved nothing more than helping students succeed.  John always found a way to get students through whatever challenges they faced because he truly believed in each and every one of his students.  John had a heart of gold.  He helped students, and not just his own, with no expectations placed on the student.  Devoted to his students and colleagues with a wicked sense of humor.

John was a very frugal person who never wasted anything, but extremely generous to others around him, from donating charitable organizations regularly to buying interview suits to the person(s) to whom he was helping for job hunting to just gave away cash to those who happened to be in need.  John was a polite, humble, elegant, and soft-spoken person, a true gentleman.  His humor and kind heart will be greatly missed.

Mr. Boland was survived by all of us: his friends, colleagues, and students.  He will live in our heart, and always be with us.

A Memorial Mass Service will be held June 27, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. from the St. Petronille Parish, Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
