Cynthia Power Obituary

Cynthia “Cindy” (Hantschel) Power, 80, passed away peacefully, on July 12, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, surrounded by friends. Born in Appleton, WI, initially educated as a teacher with the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. She earned her MS degree (Indiana State U), followed by two years at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, then, working in Mental Health. Cindy married Thomas Power in 1974, and together they built “Life Enrichment Services,” their successful private practice in Wheaton. Both served individuals and couples, with Cindy additionally training and supervising other professionals. She served as President of the National Association of Women in Management (’87-’88) and was awarded the Charlotte Danstrom “Woman of the Year” by the Aurora Chapter of Women in Management in 1988.

Cindy and Tom retired to Villa St. Benedict in Lisle, IL where Cindy continued to volunteer in a variety of activities benefiting both her fellow retirees there in the community, and in the Diocese of Joliet. She served at the President of the Resident Board for 2 years, and organized block parties and social events at Villa St. Benedict. She was a talented woman with a giving heart.

She was a beloved friend and mentor, and left a legacy of loving leadership. She nurtured all that she touched, enjoying gardening, sharing brilliant flowers with others, leaving a beautiful butterfly garden at Villa St. Benedict. Both the Prayer of St. Francis, and butterflies symbolized her philosophy and life’s work, and at the end of her life, she beautifully taught us how to surrender our lives to God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Power, her brother, Steven Hantschel and is survived by sisters Judith (Hantschel) Iles, Cheryl (Hantschel) Perry, Kristine (Hantschel) Hoernke, Janet (Jeske) Kading, nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 4, 11:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Lisle.

In Cindy’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to either the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, 2409 S. Alverno Rd, Manitowoc, WI 54220 or The Benedictine Sisters of the Sacred Heart, 1910 Maple Ave. Lisle, IL 60532.
