Lois M. Helledy passed away on January 6 in Wheaton, Illinois. She was born in Warrenton, Missouri on August 31, 1920 to Virgil Paul McKey and Carolyn (Meisenbach) McKey. She was the sister to the late Paul and Beula McKey. Lois soon moved to Pike County, Illinois and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1937. She then attended University of Illinois for two years before moving to Chicago, where she worked at Hotpoint Electric. On May 5, 1945 she married Carl T. Helledy and they made their home in Glen Ellyn, where they lived for over 50 years, raising their four children.
Lois was active in the community, including First United Methodist church groups, Ben Franklin PTA, numerous bridge clubs, golf, bowling, Junior Womens’ Club, PEO and her favorite of all – the Lois Club, which allowed her to travel worldwide. It took her to Palm Springs, California, Alaska, Ireland, New Zealand and many cruises. She also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Florence, Wisconsin over a period of 60 plus years. She hosted many holiday family gatherings.
Lois will be dearly missed by her children John (Debbie), Joan (Curt) Spears, Gail (the late Jerry) Perritt, and daughter-in-law Berit, as well as her grandchildren Tina (Howie) Cohen, Kurt, Jody Tinsley, Jennifer (David) Jackson, Gene (Maggie) Zimmerman, Greg (Tara) Zimmerman, and Aaron (Alison) Spears. She was great grandmother of 12. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl T. and son Carl David.
Visitation will be at Leonard Memorial Home Friday, January 11, 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM.
Interment will be at Mt. Emblem Cemetery (520 E Grand Avenue, Elmhurst IL 60126). In lieu of flowers, donations to First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn would be appreciated.
