Thomas Patrick Rice, beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2026, at the age of 72.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Lynda (nee Santi); sons, Ian Patrick (Andrea) and Zachary Joseph; granddaughters, Ada Joy and Isla Patricia; and brother, Philip (Lori), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold, and mother, Irene (nee Haun).
Patrick was born in Centralia, Illinois on November 29, 1953. He earned his Master of Arts (History) from Eastern Illinois University, where he was a proud member of Sigma Pi Fraternity. Patrick began his career as an instructor of social sciences from 1977 to 1985 in Westmont. After years in the classroom, he earned his law degree at night from John Marshall Law School in 1985. He was a well-respected trial attorney for 35 years and the past president of the DuPage County Bar Association. He tried cases with skill and conviction. He was an undeniable force the moment he walked into a courtroom —judges noticed, juries remembered, and opposing counsel respected. Whether in the classroom or the courtroom, he was known for his integrity and unwavering commitment to doing what was right. He was fiercely loyal, extremely generous, and surrounded himself with like-minded people. He was a proud member of Moose Lodge #682 in Batavia, where he spent time surrounded by genuine friendship, camaraderie, and laughter.
Patrick was a devoted golfer who called Eagle Brook home for many years — though it’s fair to say he loved his golf companions even more than the game itself. Those friendships, forged over countless rounds, friendly wagers, and stories shared at the 19th hole, created lasting bonds. The course was his sanctuary and those he golfed with were his people.
He was a man who appreciated good food, sharing a drink with friends and family, and who proudly cried during the National Anthem. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family will host a Celebration of Patrick’s Life on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from Noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Batavia Moose Lodge #682, 1535 S. Batavia Avenue, Batavia.
