Therese Buckley Mulvihill

Therese B. Mulvihill, nee Buckley, 96 of Glen Ellyn formerly of Westchester and Downers Grove passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 26, 2024. Therese was the loving wife of the late Donald J. Mulvihill, Sr. for 66 years. Devoted Mother to Mary Ellen (Kevin) O’Neill, Kathleen (John) Walsh, Michael (Emer) Mulvihill, Julie (Brian) Loftus and the late Donald (Jill) Mulvihill, Jr. Adored grandma of Ruth, Ellen and Daniel Mulvihill; Brendan (Ashley) O’Neill and Eileen (Chase) McDermott; Megan, Caroline (Conor) McCaskey, Mary Kate and Thomas (Kathy) Walsh; Aoife, Ailish and Daniel Mulvihill; Connor (Brittany) Loftus, Erin (Nick) Caudell, Kevin and Matthew Loftus. Dear great-grandma to Kinzie Loftus and Sofie McCaskey. Beloved daughter of the late Michael and Mary (nee Whitty) Buckley. Cherished sister of John (Kay) Buckley and the late Sr. Mary (formerly Mary Ellen) Buckley SNDdeN.

A devoted and loving friend, Therese is also reunited with a multitude of lifelong friends in heaven. Therese was raised in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago and attended St. Peter Canisius School, Sienna High School (1946) and received her BS from Rosary College (now Dominican University) in 1950. Her career as a teacher in the Chicago Public Schools spanned over 30 years. It was teaching at the Washington School where Therese met the love of her life, Don. Therese loved to play bridge, read, golf and travel.

Her greatest joy came in spending time with her family, especially summer vacations traveling across the country and spring break trips to Hilton Head Island, SC, where a trip wouldn’t be complete without a competitive game of 500 Rummy. Therese and Don enjoyed a well-deserved retirement, traveling throughout the US and Europe, as well as being “snow birds” in Naples, Florida for 25 years.

Visitation on Monday, September 30 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, October 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. Funeral mass on Tuesday, October 1 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Petronille Catholic Church, 420 Glenwood Ave., Glen Ellyn. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside. Funeral Mass will be livestreamed starting at 11:30 AM CST at the following link for St. Petronille Catholic Church https://www.youtube.com/@saintpetronille9639
