Stephen Hastings

Stephen Hastings, 81, of Glen Ellyn, passed away on March 8, 2021. He retired from L.J. Shaw & Company where he worked since 1974, eventually rising to Chief Executive Officer, General Adjuster. His colleagues, co-workers, and friends at L.J. Shaw became like family, supporting him in good times and bad, all along the way.

Steve was an avid reader -- and sometimes editor -- in his retirement. He had an infectious laugh, a razor-sharp intellect, and a passionate curiosity about everything from people to airplanes, especially The Blue Angels. He was the best husband, father, and friend you could have -- honest, funny, compassionate, generous, courageous, and loyal. And he loved a good Manhattan, extra sweet, "no groceries." He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judi; his children Steve (Michelle) of Carmel, IN, and Heidi (Adam) Hjerpe of Chicago; his grandchildren Meghan and Ben Hastings; sisters Susan (Henry) Bassett of Madison, WI, and Deborah Hastings (Margo Lewis) of Delray Beach, FL; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services for Steve will be private.
