Shirley Davis Reid, 82, passed on Sun, Jun. 21, 2020, with family by her side in Phila. PA. Visitation Monday, June 29th 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM with a service to follow at 1:30 PM. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only 50 people are allowed. Attendees must wear masks and we ask that you maintain social distancing. Interment, Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton.
Shirley was born Jun. 22, 1937 in Columbus, OH to Henry & Marie Davis. She was preceded in death by siblings Albert “Bill”, Mildred, Ruby & Barbara Jean Davis.
Shirley received her bachelor’s in Education in 1986 from the University of IL at Chicago. Shirley spent years raising her 6 children & taught for 13 years at Longfellow Elementary School in Oak Park, IL.
Shirley loved games, playing piano, reading, singing, writing & cooking. She was also a devoted Catholic and served as a dedicated Service Lector.
After retirement, Shirley was an active member of the American Association of University Women, serving as Venice chapter President, then FL State President. She started the FL State chapter of Tech Trek, a camp for young girls in STEM, and served as Camp director. Shortly after moving to Phila. PA, Shirley was nominated “ Floor Captain” at the Watermark Retirement Facility.
Her family and friends will always remember her for the way she lit up any room that she was in and her ability to connect with any person she met. Shirley loved people and her family.
In Shirley’s last moments, she gifted us by opening her eyes and smiling at her family.
She is preceded in death by her sons Rodrick Reid, and Rodney Paul Reid. She is survived by her husband Ralston Reid, her children; Terri Folan, Gail Scott, Rhonda Reid, & Ralston Reid Jr, & her grandchildren; Taylor Tindal, Rachel Folan, Nya Tindal, B.J. Tindal, & Rebecca Folan & great-grandchild Leah Padilla.
