 Shirley Eileen Clark Klingele 1937-2023
Shirley Klingele, age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 21, 2023 following a lengthy illness.
Shirley was born in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Elsie Clark on August 6, 1937, the youngest of 4 children. She lived in Ann Arbor as a child, moving to Lombard Illinois in her youth with her parents and brothers Alan (Dorothy), Larry (Maria) and Ken (Jane).
On September 1, 1956 Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Alan Klingele. They welcomed sons Mike Klingele (Ann), Mark Klingele (Randee), Matthew Klingele (Pam), daughters Maribeth Hoffman and Amy Klingele Garman (Denis). Shirley adored her grandchildren and was a loving grandmother to Mark Klingele Jr. Mike Hoffman (Megan), Katie Carter (Chris), Leslie Hoffman Dunigan (Chris), Jamie Hoffman, Kyle Klingele (Amy), Maria Klingele, Robert Mahaney III (Jennifer), Delaney Mahaney Cox (Zachary), Quinn Mahaney and Mallory Klingele. Shirley was also great grandmother to Amelia and Eloise Hoffman and Maxwell Dunigan.
Shirley raised her family as a stay at home mom for many years. She created a home that was the hub of the neighborhood. Kids playing, summer block parties, and holiday gatherings were a regular occurrence around the family home. Shirley also enjoyed traveling to competitions within the Midwest as a part of a Sweet Adeline’s Chorus, singing bass.
After her children were all in school, Shirley returned to work at Coldwell Banker in Oak Brook. She enjoyed a 19 year career in the Corporate Relocation Department, helping countless families relocate to the greater Chicago region. Shirley was highly regarded in her role and enjoyed very deep friendships with her Coldwell Banker team.
Shirley retired with her beloved husband, Alan to Ocala Florida and Corinth Texas. In their decades long retirement, they played golf, traveled to see friends and constantly welcomed friends into their home, always enjoying a robust social life.
Shirley will be remembered for her deep commitment to her husband, family, and community. She also loved singing, studying the bible, and was deeply devoted to her faith as a Catholic.
She is survived by her husband Alan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Alan and Larry, and her son Matthew.
