Sharla Rustemeyer (nee Gambill), 84, formerly a long-time resident of Arlington Heights, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2021. Born in Linton, IN, she attended Indiana University and later moved to the Chicago area to be a stewardess for United Airlines. Subsequently, she met her loving and devoted husband, John, to whom she was married for 62 years; together they raised three children. She devoted her life to her family, supporting her children and grandchildren by faithfully attending sporting events, recitals, plays, or whatever activity they were involved in. Throughout her life she traveled the world with her family, looking to experience different places, cultures, history, and the unique nature of anywhere they visited. As an avid Cubs fan, witnessing the 2016 World Series win was a lifelong dream finally realized. Sharla was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Gambill (KIA January, 1945 in the Battle of the Bulge) and Meeda Gambill Kennedy (Jack). She is survived by her husband, John, her children: Mark (Stephanie) Rustemeyer, Lisa Rustemeyer, and Jeff (Christy) Rustemeyer; grandchildren: Emily (Tyler), Kyle, Daniel, Kaitlyn (Kevin), Colin, Meghan, and Aidan; and her brother, Alan (Jo) Gambill.
Services will be private, with interment at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
