Ruth Schroeder, 97, of Carol Stream, IL. passed away on 6/20/2020 at Johnson Health Center in Windsor Park , Carol Stream IL.
Ruth was born in 1922 in Chicago.She was a graduate of Sutherland Grade School and Morgan Park High School in Chicago,attended DePauw University in Greencastle Indiana her freshman and sophomore years and transferred to Northwestern University for her junior year.
Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert F. Schroeder DDS., and son Richard. Ruth is survived by her daughters Barbara Wilcox, Judy (Joseph) Heeney, Joan(Lee) Dixon, Roberta(Jim) Bradley and Pennie (Hannes)Kvaran; devoted grandmother of Tina Cook, Stephen (Priscila) Wilcox, Jaclyn (Matt) Craig, Joseph Heeney Jr, Eric (Jackie) Davis,Lindsey Buchanan, Matthew (Christy) Bradley, Tim Bradley, Scott (Kathleen) Bradley, Trevor (Kristen) Kvaran, Brienne (Matt) McDowell, Karen(Luke) Kramer and Eileen (Jeremy) Foszcz. Proud grandmother to 25great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Treasured cousin of the late Annie Meroe Ward.
In her youth, Ruth enjoyed horseback riding and camping. As a young mother she was an active volunteer in the PTA, and Scouts. She also enjoyed traveling, boating, swimming, reading, singing, volunteer work, and attending Northwestern football games.In her later years she enjoyed birdwatching, walking, butter pecan waffles at Carol’s Garden, playing Rummikub and spending time with family and friends.
Her church affiliation was Trinity Methodist Church in Beverly where she sang in the choir and First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn. She was also a long standing member of her P.E.O Chapter.
Throughout her lifetime she was always gracious and accepting; never critical or disapproving.Ruth
taught the ultimate lesson to her family: how to age with grace and dignity. She put forth an endless positive attitude and was loved by all who knew her.She will always be remembered for her kind, gentle and loving nature toward family and friends.
Due to Covid-19, a private service will be held at Leonard Memorial Home prior to internment at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one of Ruth’s favorite causes;
