Ruth I. Clegg Jirsa. Died on Christmas Eve (12/24/2023) at home surrounded by her family. Ruth was born in at 581 Prairie Ave Glen Ellyn on July 29th 1921. To parents William Ewart Clegg, and Edith Clara Erickson. She was their second child. Her eldest Sister Hannah passed prior to her birth. Her loving Brother Bill, and baby sister Betty Ann proceeded her in death,

Her Brothers and Sisters in Law's along with her siblings gave her a legacy of loving nieces and nephews. Who visited often, called and genuinely kept her apprised of their lives. Ruth married Edward Thomas Jirsa Sr. Of Lombard, and had three children. Ruth Ann Allred (Glen Ellyn), Edward Thomas Jirsa Jr. (Judy) (Racine), and John Jirsa (Margaret) (Kenosha).

Ruth was a proud Hilltopper graduating with the class of 1940. She was active in scouting, worked a machine press to build torpedoes during WWII. She had been the commander of VFW axillary. president of the Glen Ellyn Garden Club, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn. She made friends wherever she went, and was the light in any dark room, She kept a very large family together through yearly parties, and events which allowed far flung branches and neighbors to feel like siblings or first cousins.

She was the roots holding our family together.

Her cousins, and siblings lived within walking distance of each other, and even thought they moved across the country Ruth was a good reason to come back and visit. never letting anyone feel like they didn’t belong.

On her 102nd Birthday the Village of Glen Ellyn presented her the key to the city for her contributions to the Village of Glen Ellyn.

During her last 3 years of life Her daughter Ruth Ann Allred, granddaughter Sarah Brockway, great grandsons Shaye McLernon and Fynn Brockway were entrusted with her care. She found joy in multi-generational living. She found fascination and excitement in her chickens and rabbits, and the adventure that a life with so many ages could bring. She found endless laughter poolside with her niece Barbara Klees watching her Great-grandson’s swim, enjoying the cool breeze, and the happiness of family.
