Roland Weber Obituary

Roland Karl Weber, caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 2, 2025.

Roland was born and raised in Baden-Baden, Germany, the son of the late Maximilian and Paula Weber. Roland met Charlotte, his future wife, while working at the same bank in Germany. Charlotte immigrated to Chicago in 1958, and Roland came soon after in 1959, “because he didn’t want her to get away.” They were married in Chicago in May 1960 and had three sons while living in the Beverly neighborhood. The family settled in Glen Ellyn in 1974, and Roland was proud to earn his U.S. citizenship in May 1982.

Roland began working at LaSalle National Bank in Chicago in 1959 and retired as Executive Vice President and Assistant Secretary of LaSalle National Trust, N.A. in January 1998. After retiring, Roland and Charlotte enjoyed traveling internationally, as well as visiting with and supporting the various activities of their seven grandchildren in Illinois and Delaware. They also attended many music performances in the Chicago area. Roland and Charlotte took delight in the natural world, visiting gardens and arboretums and enthusiastically spotting wildlife together, from owls in their yard to alligators on vacations to South Carolina.

Roland was an active member of Glen Ellyn Covenant Church, where he served several terms as Leadership Board Chairman and as Treasurer.

Roland began playing the clarinet in his youth and played in community orchestras both in Germany and later in the US. He also played the clarinet on many occasions at church, family Christmas and New Years celebrations, and his granddaughter Andrea’s wedding.

Roland was characterized by dedication, diligence, and perseverance in all that he undertook, for serving others selflessly, and for generously sharing God’s blessings with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Roland was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Charlotte Helene Weber (née Haeussler).

Roland is survived by his sister, Christa Kreideweis of Baden-Baden, Germany, and his sons and their wives, Marcus and Susanne Weber, Dominic and Beth Weber, and Arnie and Kandace Weber; his grandchildren, Rachel Rice, Andrea Low, Kendra Weber, Kelly Berkompas, Jaime Le, Scott Weber, and Aaron Weber; and five great grandchildren: Matthew, Caroline, John, Marien, and Oliver.

A memorial service to celebrate Roland’s life will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, 11:00 am, at Glen Ellyn Covenant Church, 277 Hawthorne Blvd, Glen Ellyn, IL, 60137. Guests are invited to visit with the family and share in a light lunch reception at the church immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Roland may be made by mail or online to the Glen Ellyn Covenant Church (gecovenant.org) where they will be used to support the church’s music ministry. Please note Roland’s name with your gift.
