Roger Louis Philipps, age 91, formerly of Crown Point, IN, peacefully passed on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Roger is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Darlene Philipps, married for 57 years, as well as his parents, George and Josephine Philipps; his brothers, Gerald and Larry Philipps and his brother in-laws, Thomas Mordi and Kenneth Sendre.
He is survived by his two daughters: Lori (Michael) Racine and Julie (Donn) Stobierski; grandchildren: Carter, Roger and Rachel Stobierski, Grant and Megan Racine; sister Karen Mordi and in-laws, Ronald (Beth) Sendre and Diana Sendre.
Roger grew up in Gary, IN attended St. Marks Catholic Grade School and Lew Wallace High School. He graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Business and shortly after proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married Darlene and moved to Hammond, IN where they lived happily for 35 years raising their family. Over the years, he was in management for Inland Steel and Sears Roebuck & Company. After retirement he found enjoyment as a starter for Harborside Golf Course and a tax preparer for H&R Block.
He will be remembered for his love of life, family, friendly conversation and great jokes for all occasions. There was never a holiday or sporting event where Roger didn’t have an organized pool, an engaging game or a lottery ticket for the winner. We will miss his warm smile, positivity and his signature declaration of ,“You’re looking good!” Happy hour without him will never be the same.
Visitation from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at St. Petronille Church, 420 Glenwood Ave. Glen Ellyn followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be a private ceremony at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
