Robert Deignan Obituary

On October 16th, 2021, Glen Ellyn said goodbye to long-time resident Robert (Bob) Deignan. Bob will be remembered for the many roles he played in life: Eagle Scout, local-sports enthusiast, Significant Sig, teacher, attorney, and family man. Of all these, he loved the role of “dad” most. Problem solving with his four children and seven grandchildren was always a thrill for him. Bob was sought out for his ability to see clearly and give advice with integrity, honesty, and a keen sense of wit.

Bob practiced law at Baker and McKenzie in Chicago, where his passion for the law and his strong work ethic led to a successful 53-year career. Among his most rewarding projects was the pro-bono work he did serving underprivileged students at the McCutcheon School in Chicago.

Bob will be remembered for his devotion to family, his faith, his generosity, his irrepressible enthusiasm for simple pleasures, his love of travel, and a certain twinkle in his eye.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ann, his children Amy Manganelli (Paul), Julie Deignan, Jane Sobolewski (Matt), John Deignan (Anna), and grandchildren Caitlin, Michael, Robert, Leo, Jack, Beatrice, and Danny.

A memorial mass will be held at Saint Petronille Church in Glen Ellyn, IL on Friday, Nov. 5, at 11:00 a.m. The celebration of life for Bob will commence at Glen Oak at 1pm

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bob Deignan Memorial Fund at Almost Home Kids would be appreciated.  All donations will be put towards a fully-accessible playground, to be named after Bob, in Naperville to be developed in the days and months ahead.  Please click on the link to make a donation:  https://www.almosthomekids.org/Give/
