Richard Lee “Dick” Diederich, of Schaumburg passed away on May 4, 2023. Born March 15, 1944 in Geneva, Illinois, Dick, better known as “Digger,” or “Disco” to his friends, grew up in Glen Ellyn, and attended Glenbard West High School. Graduating in 1962. He attended Northern Illinois University, and in 1968, began a 35 year career with 3M, where he was a highly successful sales representative in the packaging department. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing on some of the most prestigious courses around the world. In addition to golf, Dick took up running, and participated in Chicago area running events with friends and colleagues for many years. He also appreciated time with family in the northwoods, as well as rooting on Chicago sports teams, especially the Bears and Northwestern. 

Dick is survived by his close friend Cyndy Jirsa of Schaumburg, his sister, Bobby (Tom) Walker of Wausau, WI, and nephew Michael (Joy) Walker of Minneapolis, MN, and many close friends and colleagues who were like family to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton “Tony” and Leora Diederich.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Alexian Brothers Hospital, and Friendship Village for the care shown to both Dick and the family over the last month of his life.

In lieu of flowers/gifts the family and friends of Dick request that a donation in his name be given to the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department, 524 Pennsylvania Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.


A Celebration of Dick’s Life is being planned, and details will be sent out at a future date.
