Richard Wayne Fergus; born to Fred Fergus & Minnie (Ferguson) on November 13, 1930 in Garnett, Kansas and passed away at age 94 on December 7, 2024.
Richard is the beloved husband for 62 years of Dorothy nee: Severson: Loving father of Jeffrey (Wia) , Barbara (Steven) Bernardi and Brenda (James) Blough. Dearest grandpa of Christopher Fergus (Madelene Nieman), Sinta Fergus, Jacob Bernardi & Matthew Bernardi. Dear brother of Jewel Ireland, Jeanette (late William) Massey and Lyle (Milly) Fergus and fond uncle of many nieces & nephews.
Richard graduated from Lawrence High School (Lawrence, KS) in 1948. After high school he entered the US Air Force for 4 years and was honorably discharged. He then attended and graduated from the University of Kansas, graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering.
He then went on to a long 30+ year career at Argonne National Laboratories. During that time, he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy and they enjoyed a wonderful life together with friends and family.
Richard owned and flew his own airplane during his downtime. He also enjoyed woodworking, making and inventing many things and communicating across the world with his HAM radio. He was considered “ahead of his time” by all who knew him. Installing light sensors in his home and many other new age ideas. Even studying tornadoes and trying to predict them.
He was honored to spread his knowledge of engineering to local high school students. Spending time educating them out of the kindness of his own heart. A heart that continued to spread it’s love during his longstanding time being a member of 1st Presbyterian Church in Glen Ellyn.
A celebration of life for Richard will be held on Saturday, December 21st, 11 AM at 1st Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn (in the small chapel on the corner of Anthony St. and Main) 550 N. Main St. Glen Ellyn.
