Richard Eichin Obituary

On Friday, October 30, 2020, Richard Paul Eichin, loving husband and father of two sons, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 82 after an extended illness. Richard was born November 12, 1937 in Chicago to Harry and Alice (Davis) Eichin. Richard graduated from Lyons Township High School after growing up in Chicago and North Little Rock, Arkansas. After high school, Richard chose to enlist in the United States Army and served his country for three years in Italy. Richard earned his business degree from Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. Following his retirement from Bankers Life and Casualty in Chicago, where he worked as a systems analyst, Richard helped to prepare others with the skills needed to gain employment for themselves. On January 10, 1971, he married Elizabeth (Betty)Miller. They reared two sons, Mike and Eric. Richard had a passion for the written word and for sports. He often carefully prepared newspaper clippings to share with those he thought the article would be relevant to. He attended many athletic events, but especially enjoyed cheering on his sons and grandchildren. Richard was active in his Christian faith. Being a generous man, he sponsored at risk children through Compassion International. He enjoyed writing to the children and reading the letters they sent to him. Richard was preceded in death by his father, mother, and son, Eric Richard. He is survived by his wife Betty; his son Mike (Barbara); three grandchildren: Jonathan, Daniel, and Elizabeth; a sister Virginia Jacobson; two nephews Tom and Charlie (Rachel); two great nieces; and two cousins, Penni (Bruce) Isaacson and Barb (Bill) Selby.
