Peter Mehren Obituary

Peter J. Mehren, 77, was born on October 15, 1944 to John "Jack" and Ellen (nee Gundersen) Mehren, and passed away on March 31, 2022. He lived in Glen Ellyn, IL for more than 60 years prior to moving to Sycamore, IL in 2008. He proudly worked as aJourneyman Wireman (Electrician) for 31 years in IBEW Local #701 before retiring in 2002. He was a volunteer firefighter in Glen Ellyn for 33 years. Pete graduated from Glenbard West High School in 1962.  In 1966 he married Ann Branginton, and they were married for 28 years.  He is survived by his children: Elizabeth Mehren and partner Joseph Shapera (DeKalb), Jennifer Mehren and husband Benjamin Gutman (Rockville, MD), Erik Mehren and wife Savannah Mehren (Auburn, AL), and Mary Studnicka (DeKalb), as well as his grandchildren: Max Gutman, Olivia Mehren, Erik Mehren Junior, and Aurelie Mehren.

Pete had a generous spirit and cherished his family, who will miss him greatly. He was a community-minded citizen, active in his union, the Glen Ellyn Fire Department, and after he retired he served as an election judge.  In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and golfing, and had fond memories of caddying at Medinah Country Club. Cooking and going out to eat with family and friends was important to him. He also loved to watch football, and never missed a superbowl game.  His favorite team was the Bears, with the Packers a close second.  Pete had a great sense of humor, and he loved a good joke.

He was preceded in death by his father (John William Mehren), his mother (Ellen G. Mehren), his brother (Robert G. Mehren), and his half-sister (Ruth Wilson of Orlando, FL).
