Paul Jacques Obituary

We celebrate the life of Paul Jacques, 95, who died peacefully at home on April 29, 2021.

Paul served as a medic in the Pacific during World War II, where he helped many who were injured and sick.  Upon returning from the War, he graduated from Washburn Trade School and worked with his father painting houses in the near western suburbs of Chicago.  At that time, he lived in Hillside.

Around that time, he met Marion Formansky, and they married in June, 1950 and they had one daughter, Susan.  They were married for 70 years.

In the 1950’s, Paul and Marion moved to Glen Ellyn, where they lived until 1980.  Paul was committed to the community by applying his experience as an Army medic to serving as a volunteer firefighter in the Glen Ellyn Fire Department for 24 years.  He had previously volunteered for the Hillside Fire Department as well.

Paul took much satisfaction and pride in his service to his country and to the Glen Ellyn community.

After working as a house painter for several years, Paul later worked at a Glidden Paint store in Hillside.  In the 1960’s, Paul began with Carbit Paint Company in Chicago, where he worked in industrial sales for over 40 years.  For many years, he was their top salesman.  He excelled at troubleshooting.

Paul and Marion moved to Tabor Hills retirement community in 1996, where they were both really happy.  From 1980 - 1996, they lived in Wheaton, where they made many friends.

Paul loved animals, both wild and domestic.  He would often take feral cats to the local humane society and he donated food and kitty litter to them as well.  If he found an animal or bird on the side of the road, he would stop to help.  On several occasions, he stopped traffic so animals or fowl could safely cross the road.

Thank you to all of Paul’s long time and short term caregivers who cared for him.  Their competency and compassion are much appreciated.

A celebration of life gathering will occur in the future for Paul and Marion.
