Merlin J. “Buck” Wilson age 93 of Wheaton. Loving husband of Dolores nee Ferroli for 70 years: The best dad of Karen (Jonathan) Karins and Christopher (Penny) Wilson; Awesome grandpa of Kristina (Paul) Walter, Danielle (Kyle) Cook, Samuel Wilson and Jordyn Wilson; Great-grandpa of Raelynn & Austin Walter and Jax & Kade Cook; Dearest son of the late Margaret and late Chester Wilson; Fond brother of Myron (Sharon) Wilson, the late Betty O’Connor, the late Maycel Sweig and the late Myrtle Olson and dear uncle of many nieces & nephews.
Merlin was a Korean War Veteran, serving honorably for the US Army for 2 years. He in fact learned to type during his time of service, which he attributes to saving his life. Just 2 days after he was honorable discharged, he married his dear wife Dolores.
Merlin who was called by his coworkers "Joe" had a lengthy 37 year career at Northern Illinois Gas Company (NICOR). He started his employment in the bill payment department and worked his way up through the ranks to retire as a buyer in 1991.
He loved computers, ripping audiobooks to listen to them on his Mp3 player and he loved sports, especially his Green Bay Packers, bowling and golf.
A visitation for Merlin will be held on Thursday, August 28th from 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM at Leonard Funeral Home, 565 Duane St. Glen Ellyn. We will gather at the funeral home at 9 AM on Friday, August 29th, to process to St. James the Apostle Church, 440 S. Park Blvd, Glen Ellyn for 10 AM Mass. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL.
