Maurine Guest Hoeppner was born on May 28, 1931, in Rochelle, Illinois to Arthur T. Guest and Margery S. Kimball. She transitioned into life eternal on October 2, 2024. She graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1949 and graduated from Beloit College in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in English.
Maurine is survived by son, Chuck (Kathy) Hoeppner of Nashville, Tennessee, daughter Mary Hoeppner MacDonald of Englewood, Colorado, daughter Susan (Fernando) Cristiano of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, grandchildren Will (Bridget) Hoeppner, Margie MacDonald, Scott MacDonald, Giana Cristiano, Michael Cristiano, Matthew Cristiano and great grandchildren Farris Nicole Hoeppner and James Powers (J.P.) Hoeppner.
On June 18, 1955, she married Edmund (Ned) Hoeppner who preceded her in death in 2005. Maurine was privileged to travel during her college years to Europe. This experience contributed to her lifelong desire for travel and adventure. She spent two summers in New York City at a Settlement House to experience life in the “Big Apple.” She met Ned there who was a graduate student at the time at Columbia University. Maurine made homes in Rockford, Illinois, Short Hills, New Jersey and in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Maurine spent most of her life living in Glen Ellyn raising her family. Maurine was active in many organizations including DAR, Colonial Dames, The Huguenot Society and the Glen Ellyn Women’s club. She was involved in P.E.O., book clubs and in a Covenant group of women from her church that has been meeting regularly for 25+ years. She took leadership roles in each organization that she belonged to. She was a committed member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn. In her later years she enjoyed serving as Program Chairperson for the “First Pres Lunch Bunch.” She also served on many committees at the church and was both a lay Deacon and lay Elder.
Maurine was an extrovert and an optimist. She loved being around people and engaging with them. She enjoyed tutoring children at the Wheaton Youth Outreach for many years. She also enjoyed collecting sayings to live by. She often shared one that her mother gave her: “If you can’t have the best, take the next best, and then make it the best!”
Door County Wisconsin was a very precious place for Maurine. She loved to entertain many of her friends at her condominium in Fish Creek which looked out onto Green Bay. Maurine loved playing tour guide while sharing this special place with friends and family.
Needless to say, Maurine’s proudest moments were spent enjoying raising her three children and sharing fun visits with her six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Daughter Sue gave Maurine a real bonus when she presented Maurine with three young grandchildren in her late seventies. Sue and family live in Glen Ellyn, and they kept Maurine feeling young. “To feel young, you have to be with the young,” she often said.
