Dearest sister of Maureen (Jim) Novak, Tom (Marilyn) Higgins, Terry (Tammy) Higgins & the late Jack (Jan) Higgins. Whether it was being in the audience during a concert, attending someone’s graduation, or holding someone’s hand after surgery, she was always there to give her support and strength whenever someone needed her. Even though she lost her final battle, she showed tremendous strength, and just how much she was willing to fight to continue to be there for the ones she loved.
Always taking care of others, Psychiatric nursing became a true passion for “Nurse Mary,” where she dedicated over 40 years of her life.
At age 49, Mary Ellen lost the love of her life, her husband, Carl. She loved and missed him every day.
Mary Ellen and Carl were huge animal lovers who had at least one dog or cat to include in their family every year since it began.
Mary Ellen also loved to have fun, and her smile and laughter would brighten up the room. When she was able to travel, she loved to go to Missouri with her family, or Europe and otherworldly places.
Mary Ellen was an amazing mother full of unconditional never ending love. She always wanted what was best for others, and was willing to fight for it. As a nurse and as a mother, she took care of the people in her life, and taught them what true strength and love is. She will be greatly missed.
