Madeline Ruth Bertrand, of Glen Ellyn. Madeline was the most loving and faithful daughter of Linda and Jeff and sister of Zachary, Grace, and Gabrielle Bertrand.
Maddi had a love for the arts including music (marching band, flute, and piano), theater, and photography. She was a passionate advocate for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation helping to raise thousands of dollars to further research in hopes to find a cure for the disease. Maddi was an active participant on the Children’s Advisory Board at Lurie Children’s Hospital for six years and assisted the hospital in innovative ways to improve patient care. She worked with ICAN (International Children’s Advisory Network) representing youth around the world with chronic health conditions providing a voice in medicine and research.
Maddi was also an active participant with Reality Illinois/the Teen Advisory Panel to the DuPage County Health Department and worked diligently in advocating for smoke-free parks in her local communities. Maddi was the recipient of the Lurie Children’s Hospital Youth Leader Hope and Courage Award, Glenbard West Distinguished Alumni Award, and was awarded the “Making a Difference” award from the Respiratory Health Association in Chicago for her advocacy and volunteer work to improve lung health for all. Maddi was present when the Tobacco 21 law was passed and received the pen that Governor Pritzker used when signing the law.
Maddi will be remembered most for her loving, generous, compassionate heart which always saw the best in others and her faith in Jesus which was the foundation of it all.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a future nonprofit organization being set up in Maddi's honor are appreciated. Future details to come and will be posted on Maddi's Caring Bridge. Website link https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/maddib
