Louise Doyle Obituary

Louise H. Doyle (nee Sommer), 94, a parishioner of St. Petronille Catholic Church since 1959, passed away on April 21, 2025. She was born January 27, 1931, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late William A. and Helen (nee Marks) Sommer. Louise was an avid bridge player and former square dancer. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and cycling. She had been a member of Tuesday Tally Bridge Group, Art Associates of DuPage, Circle 8 Square Dance Club, Metropolitan Family Services and the Reliquarians of DuPage County. She worked for many years in the china department of Carson Pirie Scott & Co., where she particularly enjoyed working with couples planning their wedding registries. She was an excellent baker and loved decorating her home for all holidays. Louise was especially known for her all-day Fourth of July parties that she hosted for 50 years where relatives, friends and neighbors gathered to enjoy her legendary homemade pecan and cinnamon rolls.

She was married to the late James E. Doyle for 61 years, and they had six children: Lawrence (Phyllis), the late Susan (Steve Kafka), Lee (Brian) Birnbaum, Thomas (Deborah), Daniel (Lisa), and Patrick (Mary). She was the grandmother of 17 and great-grandmother of 27. She was the sister of Paul Sommer, and had four nieces and nephews.

Visitation from 4 PM - 8 PM on Thursday, April 24th at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Mass at 11 AM on Friday, April 25th at St. Petronille Catholic Church, 420 Glenwood Avenue, Glen Ellyn, Illinois. A live stream of the mass will begain at 11 AM on Friday at https://www.youtube.com/@saintpetronille9639/streams. Private Interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beverly Farm Foundation, 6301 Humbert Road, Godfrey, IL 62035-2163, in honor of Louise Doyle.
