Lois Jean Pertle

Lois Pertle, 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of June 21, following a years-long battle with MS. Born Lois Mueller in St. Charles, IL, she was raised with her three sisters in nearby Warrenville and graduated from Wheaton Central High School in 1970. After graduation she trained as a hair stylist and spent her career in that profession, for a time operating her own shops in both Lombard and Wheaton.   

Throughout her adult life Lois was a faithful member and supporter of Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn, where she regularly worshipped until failing health prevented her from attending in person.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice and Herbert Mueller, her sister Marjorie Garabrandt and her nephew Michael Pardoll. She is survived by her sisters Phyllis (Jon) Pardoll and Nancy (Peter) Yonker, her brother-in-law Gary Garabrandt, and her cousin and forever-big-brother Chuck (Jan) Miller.  

Lois was a favorite aunt to Karen Kao, Vikki (Ross) Longwell, Ben Yonker, James (Lindsay) Yonker, Clayton Yonker, Nate Garabrandt and Jake (Emilee) Garabrandt, along with grand nieces and nephews Zach Pardoll, Emma, Claire, Owen and Lucy Kao, Mallery, Ryan, Grant and Zoe Longwell, Jakob, Lucas, Hazel and Nolan Yonker, and Charlotte Garabrandt.

Having no children of her own, Lois was ever present in the lives of her siblings and their families, blessing them all with her love and constant attention, even when separated by distance. A birthday or holiday never passed without a card from Aunt Lois.  Her natural warmth, big-hearted generosity, cheerful sense of humor and overall positive outlook were inspiring to all, including family, friends and more recently, her fellow residents at Atria Park assisted living. With a firm belief and trust in Jesus Christ, she retained these traits to the very end, finding joy in the people and things around her, despite the increasing hardships of MS.

Lois’s passions were music, photography, the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. She shared her favorite music with everyone, and her countless photographs captured the faces of people she loved, the grandeur of places once visited, and the beauty she found in the ordinary. And Lois rarely missed a Cubs or Bears game on TV, which she most often enjoyed in the company of a very dear and longtime childhood friend.

A funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 493 Forest Ave., Glen Ellyn, at 11:00 AM, August 1, preceded by a visitation at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall following the service. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Grace Lutheran Church of Glen Ellyn or charity of your choice.
