Lillian Haugland passed away peacefully in her home on April 4, 2021, Easter Sunday. She was ready to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and looked to the promise of resurrection.

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Charles Haugland. Together they raised 3 children, Teresa, Leslie and Brett. They were devoted grandparents to 8 and great grandparents of one.

Lillian worked as an elementary school secretary for Wagner Elementary School and as secretary for the superintendant of Curriculum of District 41, both in Glen Ellyn.

For all of her years in Glen Ellyn, Lillian was dedicated to Faith Lutheran Church. She was involved in countless activities throughout the past six decades. Faith was her touchstone and source of service and friendship. She was the “lady with the hats”, enjoying the attention and giving so much in return.

After retirement Lillian volunteered for 30 years at both the Wise Penny retail shop and the DuPage County Convalescent Home. She helped convalescing residents to enjoy their days, providing comfort and creating art. She was also awarded Senior of the year from the Village of Glen Ellyn.

Lillian delighted in friendships with people of all ages and backgrounds. She was grateful to live to see her favorite Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2016. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, kindness, and a spirit of altruism.

The Haugland and Cannon families grew up together on Euclid Avenue. So many happy memories over so many years. We were truly lucky to have Lillian & Chuck in our lives. They were the best.

Remembering many fun times at Aunt Lil and Uncle Chuck’s home, The annual party before Christmas in their fun basement when I was a child bringing the wrapped gift and putting all the gifts together and sitting around on the basement floor, and everyone getting a chance to pick a gift to take home, the bathroom in the basement where we were all allowed to write our name or a message on the wall!! How cool was that as a kid to be allowed to write on the walls!! I also remember the fun game we would play at the party where we would chew a piece of gum and then would have make an art piece out of it using toothpicks to help make your masterpiece!!
Lots of good memories to remember and cherish..

Lillian and Charles were such treasured friends to my mom and stepdad, Tess & Jim Hill - a bond that traversed work and personal lives, forging a decades-long bond that was truly extraordinary. Among many happy memories these four shared, Lillian and Charles opened their home and back yard to mom & Jim's wedding (see photo), celebrated with Jim at his son's wedding (Lillian and I tore up the floor with our flying polka and uncontrollable laughter - best dance partner I've EVER had!), and shared in mom's 70th just a few years back (see second photo). The joyful stories my mom and Jim shared of their time with Lill and Charles over the years are too many to count - for the love, life, and laughter they brought to my parents all these years, I am deeply grateful. I wish Lillian's whole family peace as you celebrate her lovely life and the infectious spirit that will surely stay with all those whose paths she crossed. - Michele Wilkens
