Lillian Haugland passed away peacefully in her home on April 4, 2021, Easter Sunday. She was ready to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and looked to the promise of resurrection.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Charles Haugland. Together they raised 3 children, Teresa, Leslie and Brett. They were devoted grandparents to 8 and great grandparents of one.
Lillian worked as an elementary school secretary for Wagner Elementary School and as secretary for the superintendant of Curriculum of District 41, both in Glen Ellyn.
For all of her years in Glen Ellyn, Lillian was dedicated to Faith Lutheran Church. She was involved in countless activities throughout the past six decades. Faith was her touchstone and source of service and friendship. She was the “lady with the hats”, enjoying the attention and giving so much in return.
After retirement Lillian volunteered for 30 years at both the Wise Penny retail shop and the DuPage County Convalescent Home. She helped convalescing residents to enjoy their days, providing comfort and creating art. She was also awarded Senior of the year from the Village of Glen Ellyn.
Lillian delighted in friendships with people of all ages and backgrounds. She was grateful to live to see her favorite Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2016. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, kindness, and a spirit of altruism.
