Obituary

Kathryn Jane “Katie” (Hall) Mueller passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2023. She was a resident of Glen Ellyn, Illinois for sixty years. Katie was born in Racine, WI on September 30, 1931 to the late Gorman and Gertrude (Baggott) Hall. Katie graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in Racine and Wisconsin State College (now UW-Milwaukee). She taught kindergarten in Minneapolis and in Chicago where she once had sixty-four students in her classroom.

Katie met the love of her life, George Levy Mueller, in Winona, MN, the same town where the Hall’s had a family home. They were married on July 30, 1955 in Winona and their 67 year marriage was a true love story. In 1983, Katie graduated with her nursing degree from the College of DuPage. She worked at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, IL for fourteen years until she retired.

Katie enjoyed a long and happy life. She was proud of her Irish heritage and large family. First and foremost, Katie was a mom and the rock of the family. Her quiet demeanor was a comfort and inspiration to so many. Katie was an avid gardener, dedicated bird watcher and voracious reader. She loved to paint, quilt, tend her orchids, and play cards. Her favorite place in the world was her and George’s cabin near Boulder Junction, WI where she enjoyed being outdoors savoring the peaceful solitude of the north woods.

Katie is survived by her devoted husband, George, and their five children:  Jane (Bill) Mueller, Madison WI, Sue (Tim) Wenzel, Frankenmuth, MI, Joseph (Maureen) Mueller, Glen Ellyn, IL, Lucy (Joe) Wiesemann, Chicago, IL, and Amy (Dan) Hasso, Glen Ellyn, IL. Beloved grandmother of fifteen grandchildren: Emily Kuhn, Hannah Kuhn, and Sarah (Austin) Kuhn; Katie (Matt) Adrian, Molly (Alex) Schmidt, and Charlie Wenzel; Max (Rae Ann) Mueller, Tim (Samantha) Mueller, and Phoebe (Bryson) Mueller; Brian (Sarah) Dolezal, Kevin (Arden) Dolezal, and Scott (Ivana) Dolezal; Jack (Carly) Hasso, Sean (Kira) Hasso, and Danny (Angelica) Hasso. Great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren, sister to Thomas G. (Pat) Hall, Bradenton, FL, and David J. Hall, Racine, WI, and many nieces and nephews. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Dorothy J. Hall and Mary Lou Cramer, and brother J. William Hall.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Belmont Village for the compassionate care and support they provided.

A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Leonard Memorial Home in Glen Ellyn, IL is handling her arrangements. More information can be found at leonardmemorialhome.com and/or phone at (630) 469-0032.
