Kathleen Diane Halligan

 Kathleen Diane Halligan, 78, of Lombard. Treasured daughter of the late James Peter Halligan and the late Mae Halligan (née: Pflueger). Dearly loved niece of the late Marian Halligan. Proud mom and grandma. Sister of Patty. Cousin & friend to many. 

 Kathy grew up in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood of Chicago and attended Kelvyn Park High School. 

She was known for her jovial sense of humor from high school to her golden age. After graduating high school, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served beginning in May of 1966 & was stationed in Richmond, VA. Afterwards, she traveled across the United States and settled in Colorado where she worked for the USPS for many years both as a mail sorter and a carrier. 

From a young adult, she always was devoted to justice & enjoyed serving in jury duty after retirement. She was very Libra. She spoke up for what she believed in and throughout life she spoke about her faith and the power of Jesus. She loved Christian radio. To remember her, a big part of her life was daily reading the Bible and underlining passages. In conversations, she would often argue with a Bible story usually Old Testament stories about strength and perseverance. She would stop and give to people living on the streets. Inequality bothered her. In a special way, she always wanted to make a difference in other people's life with warmth and loyalty.

She lived to assist others. After midlife, Kathy worked at Knuepfer Guest house in Elmhurst with elderly residents & as an in-home caregiver with seniors and the homebound assisting in giving those in need rides to doctor appointments or shopping or playing cards with them and keeping them company. After many relationships as a Comfort Keeper she worked at a small business daycare as a preschool teacher assistant and she loved the 3-4 year old classroom especially when the children made Valentine’s Day cards and sent home their projects in brown paper bags to their parents. She was a friend to many people whom didn’t have family support and was always there for them and for years, their young children. 

Later in life she spent time quilting, knitting, always helping others and she loved DuPage County Forest Preserves. She loved a cold/iced Diet Rite.

She also loved to watch her grandson sit in front of a good movie and laugh. 

In her home, she had portraits of Jesus in every room and many wooden plaques of Bible verses and the Serenity Prayer. She would always say, JOY is: Jesus, others, then yourself. She loved poetry and music including: Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Mahalia Jackson and all kinds of rock and roll. She will be remembered for her determination and her strong faith.

Services will be privately held including cremation rites and internment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. In memory, donations to DuPage Animal Friends can be made in her honor. She will be missed!
