June Wassell Obituary

June Marie Wassell (nee Moorhead) of Glen Ellyn, died peacefully on December 18, 2023 at the amazing age of 108.

Beloved Wife of the late Arnold Wassell. Loving Mother of Richard Wassell (Mary), Dawn Sullivan (Terry), the late Carl Wassell (Joyce) and the late Beverly Kowalski (Ron).

Loving Grandmother of David Wassell, Denise Gliszczynski (Gary), Doreen Ritter (Joe Kusch), Eric Wassell (Beth), Shane Sullivan and Cade Sullivan. Dearly loved Great Grandmother of Gage Ritter, Jake Ritter, Jacqueline Gliszczynski. Brooklyn Wassell, Cassidy Wassell, Brandon Wassell (Amy) and Mikayla Wassell.

Dear Daughter of the late Richard Moorhead and Abbie Lyman. Dear Step-Daughter of the late Robert Jensen. Faithful friend to so many that went before her.

In 1936 June married the love of her life, Arnold, an immigrant from Sweden. Never quite losing his accent she was always lovingly “Y”une. Soon after they welcomed daughter Beverly followed by twin sons Richard and Carl. While Arnold was working and literally building their homes, June was keeping the three little ones happy and healthy. At the same time building friendships with other young families in the neighborhood. Many backyard barbeques, card games and parties were enjoyed.

June and Arnold spent many family vacations in the North Woods fishing, boatingand being outdoors. Several Christmas celebrations were also enjoyed Up North with the kids andgrandkids running around along with several dogs. To this day the Wassell’s all enjoy the outdoors with special memories of those times.

June was very active with her friends, enjoying exercise and dance classes along with several bowling leagues. Having Dawn later in life did not slow her down, June just brought along the playpen! June also had an amazing financial mind, always balancing the family budget, enjoying the hunt for a sale and especially loved learning about stocks and CD’s. With a group of friends, she began a successful investment club andtaught her kids how to chase the highest interest rates in town.

After conquering her fear of flying to take Dawn to Disney World, she and Arnold became avid travelers. Innumerable trips to Vegas (often with their children), Iceland, more Disney, Alaskan and Caribbean cruises were enjoyed. We have so many beautiful pictures of them enjoying life in so many beautiful places.

June loved being a grandmother and great grandmother, enjoying visits whenever possible. Even at 85 when her last two grandsons came along, she was very active with them: sitting on the floor playing trucks, legos, blocks, etc. When she lived in a retirement community the kids loved visiting her and swimming in “grandma’s pool” and eating in the “fancy” dining room. Both Arnold and June credit their long lives to staying active and involved with their families.

June taught her kids to stand up for ourselves and was always there to support us. She was very loved and will be greatly missed. We were blessed with all our bonus time with her. The family would like to thank the DuPage Convalescent Center for taking such good care of our mom and grandma these last few years. Also to Gentiva Hospice for their kindness this last week.

June waited a long 23 years to be reunited with Arnold, we are at peace knowing they are together forever.

I love you truly, truly dear,
Life with its sorrow, life with its tear,
Fades into dreams when I feel you are near,
For I love you truly,
Truly dear!
