John "Jack” A. Skryd of Glen Ellyn, Illinois
Most loving husband of Barbara Skryd for almost 65 years. Devoted father of Jackie Skryd, Joe (Molly) Skryd, John (Tina) Skryd Jr. , Chris (Martha) Skryd, Laura (Dan) DiStazio, Sara (Kevin) Palin, Dan (Angela) Skryd & Tim Skryd. Adored Grandfather of Michael Skryd, Rick Skryd, Jack Skryd III, Anna Skryd, Alexandra (Frank) Damian, Kaitlyn (Jake) Tibble, Connor Skryd, Samantha (Marcus) Walton, Ryan (Christine) Skryd, Abby Skryd, Shannon Skryd, Barbara Kaminski, Nicholas DiStazio, Dominic DiStazio, Justin Skryd. Adoring Great Grandfather of Mia Damian, Wesley Walton, Wynn Walton & Kathryn Tibble. Son of his loving parents the late Julius & Agnes Skryd. Caring Brother of Thomas Skryd and the late Odilia McLaughlin and uncle of many nieces & nephews.
Jack’s love of his family was most important to him. He adored his beautiful wife, Barbara and together they raised 8 children in Glen Ellyn, IL. They met in grade school at St. Mary of Czestochowa in Cicero, IL. Jack graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, IL in 1955. Then attended Logan College in Chesterfield, MO and graduated in 1959.
Their love of the catholic church was emulated by sending all of their children to St. Francis High School in Wheaton, IL. They were extremely involved supporters and active participants for many years.
Jack has been a pioneer in the insurance industry. He diligently served his clients for over 60 years. It seemed like everywhere our family went, we would come across someone who would say, “by any chance are you related to Jack?” He set many records and won countless awards, he was also a mentor to many insurance agents throughout his career. He won numerous Million Dollar Round Table events and was MONY’s Man of the Year!!
He was an amazing pillar of his community, sports & church. With great involvement of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, he never missed a game! You always knew he was there, because you could hear him coaching us from the sidelines. He was a devoted member of St. James The Apostle Church in Glen Ellyn, IL.
His love for baseball was so deep. He played in Roy Hobbs Baseball Tournaments for decades. Within Roy Hobbs, he created an “over 70” league that he participated in for years. His favorite parts of baseball were catching and hitting.
Jack was very active in sports, he loved playing tennis & golf. Mostly at the various clubs he belonged to: Glen Ayre Country Club in Glen Ellyn, IL; Cress Creek Country Club in Naperville, IL; Wildcat Run Golf & Country Club in Estero, FL.
Please join us in celebrating Jack’s wonderful life with visitation held on Friday, September 27th from 10AM – time of Mass (11 AM) at St. James the Apostle Church, 440 S. Park Blvd, Glen Ellyn. Burial will be for family only at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, IL. A luncheon reception for all will follow the burial at Abbington Distinctive Banquets, 3S002 IL Route 53, Glen Ellyn, IL, 630-942-8600.
