John Charles Meyer, Jr.
(June 17, 1934 - October 1, 2021)
John Charles Meyer, Jr. 87 years of age, of Naperville, Illinois, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the home of his adoring daughter and son-in-law Adelle and Paul Arras.
John was born June 17, 1934, at St. Elizabeth Hospital of Chicago, Illinois, the son of John Charles and Eva (Deffert) Meyer as their first child. He would become a big brother on February 16, 1936, when his brother Joseph Karl and again on August 3, 1939, when his sister Patricia Eva was born.
On July 22, 1934, John was baptized at St. Benedict Church in Chicago, Illinois, and was sponsored by Frank Kindl and Mary Deffert.
On January 22, 1954, he was inducted into the United States Army and served his country in the Company C, 1st Engineer Battalion. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, Occupation Medal (Germany), and Good Conduct Medal. On November 30, 1955, he was honorably discharged and transferred to US Army Reserve Component to complete his 8-year military service. On January 31, 1962, John received an honorable discharge as SP4 EN-USAR.
On February 5, 1959, he graduated from Washburn Trade School in Painting, Paperhanging, and Decorating. After completing his apprenticeship with N. Esker from February 13, 1956, to February 13, 1959. He would transfer to and remain 44 years with Bobby and Company.
On August 5, 1961, he was United in marriage to his long-time love, Diane Joy (Distel) of Chicago, Illinois. They had three children, Adelle, John Charles III, and Michelle. On April 1, 2013, John was preceded in death by his wife, Diane.
As a loving father, he leaves behind Adelle (Paul), John (Liz), Michelle (Dino), and step-daughter Rhonda (Mike).
Cherished grandfather of Zachary, Conary (Lauren), and John IV; and 9 step-grandchildren and 33 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Charles and Eva (Deffert) Meyer, and brother Joseph.
John will most certainly be remembered for his quiet, gentlemanly manner, quick wit, warm smile, love of fishing, and joy of woodworking.
