Joanne Cecelia O’Neil (née Wiegel), formerly of Glen Ellyn, died peacefully on May 25th. Loving wife of Robert O’Neil since 1956. Loving mother of Karen (Paul) Markowski, Linda (Pete) Fagan, and Patrick O’Neil. Devoted daughter of the late Esther and Howard Wiegel. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Barrett and was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ruth Cavanaugh Palkovic. She leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, And fond friends wherever she went. Joanne was always on the go. When not volunteering, you could find her on the tennis court or golf course. At various times in life she was a league bowler, neighborhood bridge player, crossword puzzler, scrabble player, and -- from her father and to the surprise of her grandchildren -- a wicked poker player. She was an avid Cubs fan. At any opportunity, she loved to dance. She and her husband Bob had been considered best dancers since their high school days. She enjoyed these and any activity with friends and family. Spending time with friends and family was the most important for Joanne, often having lengthy goodbyes in an effort to avoid the end of the gathering. When visiting Joanne’s house, she would stand at the door and wave goodbye until you were out of sight. Now it is our turn to stand at the doorway and wave goodbye. She is loved and will be missed, and long remembered, by many. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Francis High School at http://bit.ly/SFHSMemorial
