Jerome “Jerry” Mykietka

Jerome “Jerry” Mykietka, 78, of Glen Ellyn. Beloved husband of the late Carol Mykietka and devoted father of Brian (Lindsay) Mykietka; grandfather of Christian Mykietka; son of the late Mary and John Hrynyszyn, and the late John Mykietka; half-brother of the late Gregory Hrynyszyn.

Jerry was born in Hinsdale and lived most of his young years at 62nd and Garfield Ave. He attended Hinsdale High School (Central) and later Parson’s College in Iowa and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He met his beloved wife and best friend Carol on a blind date arranged by mutual friends.

He married Carol Mykietka in January of 1968 at Grace Lutheran Church in LaGrange. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years as a reservist during Vietnam.

Jerry worked for Kroehler Furniture for many years, moved to Dallas and then moved back to Illinois after two years. Carol and Jerry purchased a home in Glen Ellyn in the 1970s. Jerry and Carol started Village Green Lawn and Tree Care around 1980 and were business partners for 28 years.

Jerry cherished many trips made up to Door County, WI with his family during autumn and winter and enjoyed lots of hiking and photography in Peninsula State Park. He loved jazz, blues, and classical music, photography, boating, playing guitar and going to air shows.

After Brian became very involved in karate and he and Carol spent many, many volunteer hours with Illinois Shotokan Karate Clubs helping with tournaments and belt exams.

Visitation for Jerome Mykietka will be held on Saturday December 9th from 10 AM until 12 PM with a Service at 12:30 PM at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St Glen Ellyn IL. Military Honors including flag folding will be directly after the service. Burial will be private.
