Jean C. O’Brien age 85 of Wheaton & Glen Ellyn, was born on November 16, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ralph and Matilda Wheaton.  An avid dog lover, she enjoyed acting and moved to Chicago after working at a dude ranch in search of new adventures with her friends. This adventure led her to marry Russ in 1961 becoming a loving mother to 5 children and grandmother to 10.

She is survived by her husband Russ O’Brien, children of Theresa (David) Roth, Patrick (Michelle) O’Brien, Michael (Margaret) O’Brien, Kelly (Paul) Hass, and Casey O’Brien and 10 grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents Ralph & Matilda Wheaton and her sister Geraldine Brothers.

Aside from spending time with her family and friends, Jean enjoyed crossword puzzles, beating everyone in the card game rummy, caring for her dogs, and welcoming others into her home.  Proud mother of five, she was a steady fixture at the events of her children. A theater lover, she acted in many plays in her youth (most notably as the Wicked Witch of the West with an authentic cackle) and delighted in attending plays and musical theater as an adult.  She enjoyed traveling around the US and to Japan and Europe. Her family recalls a penchant for laughter and a sympathetic ear for all; her sense of humor and ability to tell a story will be greatly missed.

A memorial gathering will be Friday, January 17, 2020 4:00 to 8:00 at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home (www.leoanrdmemorialhome.com), 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn, IL. Memorial Mass, Saturday, January 18, 10 AM at St. James the Apostle Church, 480 South Park Blvd., Glen Ellyn IL. Processional to Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Wheaton, IL 60189
