James F. Mulcare

Beloved husband and father James F. Mulcare passed away on December 7, 2024, after a long and fulfilling life. Jim was born 90 years ago on April 23, 1934 in Chicago, IL. He enjoyed a childhood surrounded by extended family and abundant playtime with siblings and cousins in the neighborhood. Jim was introduced to baseball at an early age and played as often as he could throughout his youth and into adulthood. His favorite teams were the White Sox and whoever was playing against the Cubs. 

After graduating from St. Mel High School on Chicago’s west side, Jim served two years in the US Army, and later worked in the printing business.  

In 1969 Jim married Patricia Yander and the newlyweds moved to Northern California. They soon became parents, welcoming a son, Casey, in 1970. When they tired of California, Jim and Pat moved back to the midwest and welcomed daughter, Nancy, in 1972. Jim spent the next two decades in Glen Ellyn working primarily for Bradley Printing Company in Des Plaines, IL, as a lithographer. He took great pleasure in coaching little league baseball, watching his children play sports, rooting for Notre Dame football and capturing every moment with his camera. 

Upon retirement, Jim and Pat moved to northeast Pennsylvania, which Jim referred to as “God’s Country.” There they enjoyed twenty five years of a slower pace of life before coming back to Glen Ellyn to be closer to their grandchildren. Jim was a faithful Catholic and the true definition of a family man. His quick wit and sense of humor will be deeply missed. 

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Louise Mulcare, and his sister, RoseMarie Cooke. 

He is survived by his wife, Pat Mulcare; his children Casey (Amy) Mulcare and Nancy (Andy) Zgutowicz; his grandchildren, Danny, Lindsey and Gabby Mulcare and Jack, Caroline and Peter Zgutowicz; his brother Joseph Mulcare; and his nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held at Leonard Memorial Funeral Home, 565 Duane St. in Glen Ellyn, IL on Friday, Dec 20, 2024 from 4-7pm. Funeral Mass to be held at St. James the Apostle Church, 480 S. Park Blvd in Glen Ellyn, IL on Saturday, Dec 21, 2024 at 11am.  

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Jim’s name to St. James the Apostle School in Glen Ellyn, IL to support scholarships for Catholic Education or Waterleaf Women’s Center in Aurora, IL (https://waterleafwc.org/donate/).
