James Kenward Obituary

James “Jim” Andrew Kenward age 95 of Glen Ellyn, beloved husband of Collette (Orr) for 63 years, cherished father of John (Lori Kaskowitz-Kenward), Laura (Tony Dorin), Janine, and Jim, and loving grandpa of his grandchildren Nicholas (Grace Salame), Clare, Adam, Emily, and Sarah.  Jim passed away peacefully on January 18, 2020 and is preceded in death by his wife, Collette, and daughter, Janine; parents Charles Kenward, D.D.S. and Mabel Kenward (Monroe); brothers John Kenward, M.D. (Marcia), Franklin Kenward, D.D.S. (Eleanor), Charles Kenward, D.D.S. (Evelyn), sister Martha Luscombe and twin sister Jayne (Fleck).

Jim was born in Gary, Indiana and graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1942.  He proudly served his country in WWII with the 255th field artillery battalion, which was part of Patton’s Third Army.  He and his unit landed in France in August 1944, and fought their way to Germany and Austria by May 1945.  When asked what his favorite colors were, the answer was always “red, white and blue.” After the war he attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, and graduated with a business degree in accounting.  After graduation, he worked for NIPSCO in Hammond, Indiana, until 1983. He, his wife, and children lived for many years in Highland, Indiana, where they were members of Our Lady of Grace parish. He was also a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, who as a boy once saw Babe Ruth play at Wrigley Field.

Visitation Monday. January 20, 4 PM - 8 PM, at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St. Glen Ellyn.  Funeral Mass Tuesday, 10 AM, at St Petronille Catholic Church, 420 Glenwood Ave, Glen Ellyn.  Interment Saturday, 10 AM, Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary Indiana.
