Harvey (Pete) Peterson, 87, of Glendale Heights passed away Monday, January 1, 2024 at the University of Chicago Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. The son of Emil and Hilda (Lapinoja) Peterson, Pete was born on July 19, 1936 and raised in rural Nimrod, MN. He was the beloved husband of Marge (Tschirpe) Peterson, proud father of three sons Timothy, Russell and Andrew, and loving grandfather to Dilara and Griffin.
Pete graduated from Menahga MN High School in 1954 and enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. During his four years of service as Airman 1st Class, he earned the Medal of Good Conduct and received many awards and commendations. He spent two years in Japan and after returning, he moved to Chicago to pursue an Associates Degree in Engineering. With this experience, he began working in the manufacturing industry and with his wife purchased and ran Indesco Products, a family business, for over thirty years. Pete and Marge were married in 1961 and had been members of the Lutheran Church of the Master in Carol Stream for many years.
While Pete lived and worked in the Chicago area for much of his life, his heart remained in Minnesota. He enjoyed outdoor recreation and was a lifelong hunter and fisherman. He maintained property near where the family homestead had been that served as a central hearth for extended family to share time together, tell stories, and pass on traditions from one generation to another.
Pete was never far from sports and was a lifelong fan of his beloved Cubs and Bears. His life was also made richer by his great love for his cats, Ida and Olga. He was fun-loving, quick with a joke, and full of the most delightful mischief. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Pete is survived by Marge, his wife of 62 years, his brother George (Laurie), his sons Russell (Carmen) and Andrew (Fawn), and grandchildren Dilara and Griffin. He was preceded in death by his son Timothy (Cigdem), his parents Emil and Hilda, and siblings Norma (Schultz), Harley, Jerry and Roger.
A Memorial will be held Saturday, January 13, at Leonard Funeral Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn IL, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm., with a service beginning at 3:00 pm.
