Gretchen Rehm Obituary

The children of Gretchen Rehm, Bryan, Rebecca and Andrew are saddened to announce the passing of their mother, Gretchen Morgan Rehm. Gretchen died peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2025.

Gretchen is survived by Bryan Rehm, Rebecca Rehm Blankfield, and Andrew Rehm along with six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Gretchen was born on April 6, 1935, and raised in Lafayette, Indiana. She graduated in 1956 from Indiana University and married her college sweetheart Roger Rehm, moving with him to Japan the same year. There Gretchen worked for the artist Willie Skyler until returning to the States.

Roger and Gretchen moved to Glen Ellyn, IL in 1972. After 17 years of devoting herself to caring for her family and home (for which she spent years architecting and designing), Gretchen took classes at night and earned a master’s degree in computer science in 1978. After graduating, she soon joined the workforce as a computer analyst at Reed Devices before moving to the investment firm John Nuveen where she rose to Vice President level prior to retiring in 2001.

Gretchen loved organizing and participating in bike and canoe trips with friends and playing bridge with both friends and accomplished master-level players. She also enjoyed traveling to every inhabited continent on earth with her husband Roger always returning with great stories, interesting pictures, and gifts for friends and family. Gretchen took great pride in her volunteer role in First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn’s Walk-In Ministry program. She also enjoyed playing sports, especially bocce ball, tennis, golf, pickleball, and ping pong and played until her late 80s.

Gretchen always loved the kids and families she met traveling around the world. Memorials can be sent to Doctors Without Borders, an organization whose work is critical to many of those families.

Gretchen’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn, IL on Monday, April 7 at 10:30 am followed by a reception with the family. Interment will be a private service at Forest Hill Cemetery.
