Frank Edward Vogt
December 31, 1935 – July 30, 2025
Frank Edward Vogt was born on December 31, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois to Irene Hanson and Sigel Frank Vogt, and was the cherished brother of Carol (deceased) and Mary (Tillman). Frank returned to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, who passed away in February 2008.
Frank grew up in the Glen Ellyn and Wheaton area and attended classes at Glenbard High School. After high school, he worked a variety of odd jobs, including a position with the Village of Glen Ellyn.
In 1958, Frank enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably as a member of the Military Police until his discharge in 1960. Upon returning home, he met the love of his life, Mary Thurston. They were married in August 1961 and made their home and raised their family in Glen Ellyn, where he resided until his death.
Frank worked part-time at The Glen Theatre (even winning an award for his dedication), but his full-time career was with the Village of Glen Ellyn Public Works Department, where he spent the majority of his professional life. Later, he transitioned into sales, providing waterworks products to municipalities throughout the region—a role that allowed him to continue serving communities in a different way. Frank was a born salesman!
Frank was a devoted father to his three children—Mick (Lisa Marie), Lisa Rae, and Dan (Jenny)—and a loving “Gramps” to his cherished grandchildren: Samantha, Thomas, Jacob, Joy, and Jordan. He also had a soft spot for his many grand fur babies.
He will be remembered for his infectious, deep laugh, his commitment to his lifelong friends, his steadfast loyalty to the Cubs, and the warmth and humor he brought into every room. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the values he passed down, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be revered for his deep love of family, his quiet strength, and his unwavering commitment to service—both to his country and his community.A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Frank had an undying love for baseball. He was an avid card collector and passed that love on to his granddaughter Jordan, sharing not only his treasured cards but the joy and stories behind them. In addition to baseball, Frank found joy in the music of Frank Sinatra, reading, and watching westerns and war shows. One of his prized possessions was an autographed photo of Barbara Eden, which always brought a smile to his face.
As Frank would often say with a grin,
“Being a Cubs fan builds character—and patience… lots of patience.”
He wore his loyalty like a badge of honor, through every season, rain delay, and heartbreak—because hope, like Frank, was eternal.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 8th from 10AM-2PM at Leonard Funeral Home, 565 Duane St. Glen Ellyn. IL 60137. Burial and graveside service to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.
