Eunice Green Obituary

Eunice Green passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Monday, August 8th, 2022.

One of 7 children, Eunice Mae Mullen was born on September 20th, 1932 in Grenada, Mississippi to Randolph Mullen Sr. and Birdie Ann Mullen.

Driven and independent, she left home to attend college at Alcorn St. University, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in 1956. Meeting on a holiday break, Eunice found her loving husband and companion in Armspert Green Jr, for the next 34 years until his death.

Part of a new cohort of African Americans migrating North, Eunice moved to Illinois in the late 50s to feel the warmth of other suns. Armed with a Master’s of Education from the University of Illinois, Eunice began her long career as a home economics teacher at Crane Tech High School on Chicago’s westside. She touched many students lives as a work study coordinator and a 4H leader.

Living in Chicago and then Wheaton, Eunice and Armspert Jr. ultimately moved to Glen Ellyn as part of an effort by the DuPage County NAACP to integrate the region. Eunice was an important part of the community, working to advance social justice and equity as a lifetime member of the NAACP, and an active member of Women in the NAACP (WIN). She was a faithful member of The First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, loved bowling with the Sunshine Girls and regularly served as a DuPage County election judge.

Always looking for an adventure, she fearlessly travelled extensively around the world in addition to her busy social schedule at home. Her fierce wit and adventurous spirit left many friends to keep her in their memories.

Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Armspert Green Jr. She is survived by her children Gloria (Bruce) Cox, Alex (Polly) Green, six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
